The new season is two days away and this year, unlike the others, Arsenal has successfully completed most of its transfer business way before the window closes. I think last year was a real lesson for Arsene Wenger and he has wisely chosen to set the internal deadline for transfer this year, this being the start of the season. So I am guessing the Robin Van Persie will be the last piece of business we will be doing on the sales side. Of course this does not include the players that have been identified as surplus to the squad like Bendtner, Park and possibly Arshavin. I think we can safely say that Song will not be sold this year.
The squad in itself looks pretty decent for a good run this year even without further acquisitions. I will do a more in-depth review of the squad tomorrow but as it stands, we have pretty good cover in all departments at the moment. There are positions which we are weaker at the moment like right back and creative midfield where our main guys are out injured. It would be different when players like Sagna, Rosicky and of course Wilshere make their eventual return.
So will we be seeing any more new players before the window closes? Probably not. I think Arsene will probably take the couple of games into the season to decide on this matter. Of course we can always do with an experience right back to complement Sagna but besides Jenkinson and Yennaris, we still have Djourou and Coquelin who can also play in that position. Other than that, I don’t really see the boss spending a lot of money on a player. I am almost sure we will not see M’Villa in the team this season. If we can get Sahin (deal looks dead in the water at the moment) on loan, it would be plus, but otherwise, we are still good to go for Saturday.
