Arsene Wenger will have to make a difficult decision tomorrow in the FA Cup in deciding to play or not to play Jack Wilshere in the match against Blackburn. Obviously, with the player being in such great form, playing him will give the Gunners a great chance of making it true to the next round. However, with the massive tie against Bayern Munich looming on Tuesday, it might be prudent to give the young man a rest since he has just recovered from being clobbered against Sunderland.
Having a home match against Champions side Blackburn at home might look a simple and straight forward victory for the Gunners but going by the record this season, it is going to be another tough match tomorrow. In the last round, the team made hard work of the victory against Brighton and it was only after the introduction of Wilshere and Walcott did the team looked comfortable in the game.
I guess the decision will lie in which cup competition does Arsene Wenger places more importance, Champions League or FA Cup. The Champions League is definitely Arsene Wenger’s Holy Grail but personally, I would rather we go all out for the FA Cup this season. I just don’t think we have what it takes to conquer Europe with the current squad and the FA Cup is a more realistic target for the team.
The other alternative is to play him in all matches, but I do think that we need to protect Wilshere a little to make sure he remains fresh for the run in to the Premier League. The lad has been playing a lot of football in the last couple of months and it won’t be long before he runs out of steam. Let’s hope it does not happen until the end of the season.
